Beach wedding, Huatulco, Oaxaca

Some time last year I received a phone call from Afghanistan. It was from a young man in the US navy who had found me on google and was looking for a photographer for his wedding to a Mexican in Huatulco, Oaxaca (Mexico) the following year. Anyway, very sadly I was at the last minute unable to go to photograph the wedding so my wedding photography partner Ana went instead. She said it was a gorgeous and intimate wedding. The actual wedding ceremony was on the beach. She was dressed in an ornate white gown and he was dressed in his navy uniform. How picturesque! I really wish I could have also been their to photograph this wedding. The photographs are absolutely classic. Well done Ana.

Very hot and wonderful wedding, Querétaro

This is definitely the kind of wedding photography job that makes me realise how lucky I am to work as a wedding photographer. It was just so pretty and all outside and all surrounded by grass with the backdrop of a beautiful hacienda. White tablecloths and lots of flowers and lots of laughing. It was a real pleasure to photograph this wedding.

Claudia and Marc’s wedding (San Miguel de Allende, Mexico)

What a ridiculously cool wedding and what ridiculously cool people. The day begun (for me) at Casa Capricho where the bride’s family where staying. The make-up and hair was all being down around the main courtyard – not a bad setting to being your wedding day. I then made the short walk to the Parroquia on the jardín in the centre of San Miguel. The wedding ceremony was followed by a procession of the wedding party (accompanied by Mariachis) through the streets of San Miguel. It was a hell of a lot of fun and obviously a bit of treat for a wedding photographer).

The reception was also nearby, a perfect colonial house and garden also in the centre of San Miguel de Allende. The whole wedding was spectacular -  a wedding photographer’s dream. If anyone is planning a wedding like this (or any wedding whatsoever) in San Miguel, please let me be the photographer. It is clearly the best place to work as a wedding photographer.

Beautiful portraits, beautiful house, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

And what a beautiful bride she was. Good bus journey (why do I love the bus so much?) from Mexico City to San Miguel to take some portraits of the bride-to-be a few days before her wedding. Portraiture really is my cup of tea, I just find it so easy and fun, I took lots of shots of the relaxed bride in the shady courtyard and all around the classic shady spacious colonial San Miguel house.

Wedding at the Cathedral in Mexico City

The preparations and the reception were at a truly stunning and stunningly restored house just off the Zócalo. The bridal party walked from this house to the Cathedral with lots of screaming and clapping people all round – super fun. The actual wedding was obviously quite grand (being in the Cathedral) but the bride and groom and their families were so nice and relaxed and smiley that it all seemed much more intimate. I took some classic wedding photos of them walking back from the wedding to the reception, accompanied by Mariachis – so fun.

Sunny wedding photography, Playa del Carmen

This was the very first wedding I have photographed in Mexico.

I arrived in Playa del Carmen the day before and wondered around finding places for photos and working out how the hell I was going to deal with all that sun. There is just such a holiday feel in Playa del Carmen it is impossible to be stressed or nervous. There were what seemed like millions of gorgeous bridesmaids so lots of wedding photos beforehand. Also took lots of photographs of the wedding couple by the beach and walking along the grass in the hotel. The actual wedding ceremony was in a very sweet little white chapel right in the centre of Playa del Carmen and I took some lovely photographs outside of it. We also went on a little walk to the beach after the wedding so got some very nice photographs of the wedding party walking down the street. I was very pleased with the wedding photographs and so was the bride!

wedding in Guadalajara, Mexico

Just had a meeting with a very nice couple and it seems that I have finally got my first wedding photography job in Mexico. The wedding is in Guadalajara in January. For this wedding I will probably go without an assistant as I am not charging very much and they are such a nice easy couple but if I do start to do a lot more weddings here then I really hope to be able to find a good assistant/second shooter, one who is very organized, very confident, can drive and most importantly speaks Spanish (ideally a Mexican). Anyone out there? You must be a very proficient photographer and have some experience as a wedding photographer.

Or a wedding in Puerto Vallarta, even better

…with abi as my assistant, she would be brilliant and organised and charming. I must hook up with her friend to see if I can get some wedding work there.
